Eight More State Parks!

The day Jeff finished his last final our family left to St. George for vacation. An April (post finals) vacation has become a bit of tradition in our family. This year we had planned on attending seven different Utah State Parks in eight days. While we were in St. George we visited the following state parks:

(1) Fremont Indian
(2) Snow Canyon
(3) Quail Creek
(4) Corral Pink Sand Dunes
(5) Gunlock
(6) Sand Hollow
(7) Frontier Homestead
(8) Territorial State House (Filmore)

We also worked in a trip to Zion National Park and a tout around the historical sites in St. George (Brigham Young's Winter Home and Jacob Hamblin's home).

The following are the pictures from our trip.

On the way down we stopped at Fremont Indian State Park. We fought through a snow storm to walk a small trail and see some of the ruins. This looks like a great state park to spend more time at, but due to the snow and time constraints we only saw a very limited amount of stuff.
We really liked the discovery portion of the visitor center. Due to the poor weather we were the only people to where there so Syd had the whole discovery zone to herself. She enjoyed cooking Indian food in the mud hut and pretending to be an anthropologist and analyze rocks under the microscope.

The next day we discovered this great little water park in the the heart of St. George. A little fountain which flows through rocks allows kids to play and climb around. Here is Syd playing among the rocks. We came back several times throughout the week.

We also made a stop at the St. George Temple and went through the visitor center.

The next day we went to Snow Canyon State Park. We did two short hikes and Syd enjoyed walking around of the sand stone.

The next park was Quail Creek State Park. We took the boat out for a spin. The whole trip up Syd was saying "Boat in the water, boat in the water." She loves boating.

Next park was Corral Pink Sand Dunes. The cold air had moved in and we ended up not staying the night like we had planned, but we saw and played on some magnificent sand dunes.

This next picture is of Jeff and Syd doing sidewalk chalk at the house in St. George.

Here is a picture of Gunlock State Park. WE did not bring the boat to this because the water was too low and the weather had cooled off from earlier in the week. But we saw the reservoir and enjoyed the scenic dive.

Here is Syd doing the "Weeping Wall" hike in Zion National Park. She hiked the whole way without stopping or complaining. She loves being outside.

On the way home we stopped at the final two state parks. Here is a few pictures from the Frontier Homestead state park in Ceader City and the Territorial Statehouse state park in Filmore.

We had a great time! and learned much about Utah history!

Wow, what a marathon trip! But it looks fun. My grandparents lived just outside of st. george for a long time, and we did a lot of the day trips you mentioned. It's such a beautiful area. Congrats on another semester finished also!
